The End

Proudly counting myself amongst countless miscounted followers of the BBC sci-fi comedy series Red Dwarf, allow me to present this, my very own dedicated blog, by which to express the glimmering of my heart gazing like a newborn star upon its beauteous countenance. Which, taking into account the computations for recalibrating new posts, should be of interest to four... perhaps even five like-minded fans, a week.

One particular aspect of the show's production that I happen to find fascinating, nay deliciously bizarre, is Lister's leather jacket ‒ first introduced in Series III care of veteran designer, Howard Burden. Aesthetically, it remains one of my all-time favourite examples of characterisation-through-couture; perfectly exemplifying its intended wearer, and serving as the natural springboard for many a budding cosplayer. Suffice it to say, I've been researching the costume, on-and-off, for at least twenty-five years.

During my earliest attempts at identifying the various pins & patches scattered across its mottled surface, The Official Red Dwarf Companion proved invaluable in these early days of 'the project'. With the help of a friendly pensioner's pensioner-friendly magnifying glass, over the course of [too] many months, I was able to glean tiny details, like the word 'Scully' on one intricately-embroidered disc, loosely-sewn onto its tattered left sleeve. In mere nanoseconds of effortless Googling years later, this resulted in a positive ID of "Garneau-Scully-Power" ‒ from NASA mission STS-41G ‒ and with that, another patch was checked off the list.

Recently, having been able to identify a few more items, I thought it might be interesting to keep these factoids together, and in one place ‒ not least of all as, with any luck, additional info might come this site's way which can then be added to the incrementally growing list, thereby becoming as close to a useful guide, as one can hope. Whilst I'm at it, I may just bore/inspire you with other incidentals, too.

Felicitations,

Rich
