In researching this particular patch, I learned that the usage of the number '13' is often connected to its corresponding thirteenth letter of the alphabet, 'M', which is also the first letter of not only a two-wheeled road vehicle, but also at least two well-known narcotics. Could this be a reference to Lister's familiarity with marijuana gin, perhaps? Or, if misspelled by the Space Beatnik community, Freaky Fungus? Or, respectfully referring to Craig's real-life struggles with addiction?
Thirteen could also be a reference to the wearer considering themselves to be their own off-grid judge & jury on the frontier, which certainly aligns with the various authoritarian paraphernalia dotted about the costume.
As far as intergalactic law & order is concerned, with only enforcement droids, justice fields, and the occasionally-rebooted mainframe to contend with, it seems our scuzzy space-bum is only too aware that being all alone in this cold, atmosphere-lacking, reality bubble of deep space, he has little choice but to fend for himself, or bite the bazookoid. As far as continuity and motivation are concerned, I find myself increasingly of the opinion that Lister's decoration of what can quite legitimately be referred to here as his uniform, is both intended and measured.
A few different versions of this one out there, with accurate types being ever more difficult to find, it seems. With that in mind, you're after the one with white/silvery thread, on black.
