Skylab Patch [Series X-The Promised Land]

This Skylab patch can be found on the screen-left sleeve of Lister's latest leather jacket, from Series X-onwards. The type to look out for in this instance features this muted green outer border.

Skylab sadly burned-up in Earth's atmosphere, deorbiting on 11th July 1979, some nine years before The End premiered on BBC2. Fortunately, nobody lost their lives in the destruction of Skylab, and it no doubt laid crucial groundwork for the International Space Station.

So, here we have a further example of some fateful cosmic incident memorialized upon Lister's threads. What I'd like to know is, were the addition of these soft-wear patches measured, or purely aesthetic, on the part of the costume department? It'd be a lot of fun, finding out.
