Laser Hologram Keyring [Series III - V + VII + Back To Earth]

Usually, I wouldn't write a post concerning a newly-found item unless I had an example in hand, but... well... it should all become clear in a few dozen paragraphs. As I recall, my quest to locate all the bits that adorn Lister's jacket began in the early 1990s, on the day I was accompanied to Dillons bookstore on New Street in Birmingham (formally Midland Bank, latterly Waterstones, and presently an Apple store). Walking up the steps to the raised ground floor, much to my budding delight, staff had carefully arranged a featured display – née treasure trove – of Red Dwarf publications, spanning the Official Companion to Primordial Soup. By then I was already a dedicated fan, and very fortunately, my mother kindly offered me the chance to take my own handful of tie-ins up to the till before we headed to the bus stop for home. Yes, at very long last, on the 11th of March 2024, the fabled 'Silver Pin' was formally identified on Facebook as being of the brand 'La Rocka! England', having accompanied specific examples of the respected clothier's Medieval Biker range from many moons ago. So, aside from this being TERRIBLY EXCITING NEWS, let's find out what I got right between now and three decades ago when I began searching... Well, first off, that is certainly an eagle's head, with protruding tongue, at the badge's centre. There are also crossed battleaxes, as first astutely posited by fellow enthusiasts elsewhere to this blog, and the lower banner does indeed say "England...

M'aidez... Help me... Muh-ay-daye.

So, thus far, even on the basis of advanced mutual compatibility on the basis of a primary initial ident, what hasn't been confirmed concerning the finer details of Lister's jacket? Well, most obviously, we don't know the make of the jacket itself. We do however know it's more or less a Perfecto lancer-fronted cut [apparently British-made], and features side venting, cuff poppers, belt poppers, popperless lapels, loose belt, no coin pocket, vertical zipped pockets, and angled zipped breast pockets. We know that the screen-right sleeve is missing much of its elbow, and the screen-left shoulder has similarly been reattached using grommets and loosely-bound cord. Red... Curry Sauce

Bit of a stretch this one, but as it presents an opportunity to shoehorn in one or two Red Dwarf references down the line, I consider it a good excuse to chronicle just one or two stupendous social moments in my own personal history. Plus, Lister likes curry, doesn't he? Well, caviar vindaloo, at least. So, I grew up just outside Birmingham, within walking distance of a Cantonese takeaway restaurant called the Golden Bird. When I was young, the establishment was run by Mark & Dorothy, of whom I have only the fondest memories. My father and I would walk down every late Sunday afternoon and collect a meal for three, which at the time cost around £10. For my birthday, they would never seem to forget to gift me a small red/gold envelope with a carefully folded banknote inside. So much so did I eagerly await this special treat that, after some persistent and calculated nagging, the Sunday Night Takeaway eventually shifted 24 hours to Saturday.
